Our History

Dick Peterson and Pat Sullivan, two determined and visionary souls, embarked on an epic journey to create Mikelson Yachts. They first crossed paths during the trans pack in 1976 and went on to navigate the uncharted waters of the maritime world with unwavering resolve. With their passion for sailing and their entrepreneurial spirit, they brought to life a sailboat line that would captivate the hearts of mariners everywhere.

Tom Fexas

As they continued their voyage, they encountered the talented Tom Fexas, who’s unique design approach caught their attention. Tom’s ability to create boats that were both efficient and graceful through the water was a rare find on the West Coast, and they saw an opportunity to make a lasting impact. With their combined expertise, they set out to bring a new level of performance and efficiency to the maritime industry, filling a much-needed gap in the market. Today, Mikelson Yachts stands as a testament to their unwavering spirit, a beacon of hope for all those who dare to chase their dreams and make them a reality.

Innovation

Back in the day, building an efficient boat was a real challenge. The engines were heavy and didn’t produce as much power per pound. But that didn’t stop us from dreaming big and pushing boundaries.

We defied the odds and went against the traditional 15-16 knot boats that were loud, fuel-guzzlers and lacked range. Our innovative approach was to design a wider boat, the 48, that would revolutionize the industry. This boat was unlike anything seen before, offering ample space and unprecedented speed. When the 48 was launched in 1987, Tom was on board and the boat was powered by 375 horsepower cats. We were stunned to see the boat reach speeds of 27 knots, making it one of the fastest and most efficient boats of its kind.

The Future

As we looked to the future, we sought to create a boat that would meet the diverse needs of our customers. We wanted to build a vessel that offered the best of both worlds, a perfect blend of comfort and functionality, without any unnecessary compromises.

In response to the growing demand for boats that could both fish and cruise, we worked tirelessly to find the perfect balance. And in doing so, we redefined what was possible in the world of boating. No longer were fishermen limited to primitive boats, as we offered a new standard of comfort and luxury.
